Block Island is a resort Island, something like Marthas
Vineyard. You can walk to town or rent bicycles, mopeds (from Aldo), or take a taxi.
Almost any restaurant has good seafood. Ballards Inn, the National Hotel, and
Finns or Elys on Church St. (good Italian food) are a few good ones. The beach
is within walking distance from the airport but you may need a bicycle to peddle around to
the cliffs on the South side of the island. If you do go to the South side, check out the
lighthouse and walk down the cliff stairs to the beach below. Watch for evening fog; it
can roll in quickly. Also, the airport is reported to have constant crosswinds. Weekdays
are best; weekends during the summer season are very crowded so plan to get there before
11:00 am. Also be careful taxiing on the bumpy grass tie-down area. (gv/ked/dd/md

There is a golf course just off the tiedown area. Misquamicut Beach
is a mile as the crow/skyhawk flies from the airport, but you really need a taxi to get
there since you cant walk down the runway or approach. The great restaurant of the
past is gone...sob! (gv/ ked/ dd/md 9/94)

Interesting Air Museum ... ask the tower for taxi
instructions. Mostly Korean/Vietnam War era stuff, but they also have the remains of a
Hellcat which they recovered and had to fight the Navy for. They have a Polish Mig-17 and
a monstrous single radial engined rag wing Russian biplane which until recently was in
service in Siberia. Many of these planes are more or less in flying condition.
